Which hair oil to choose? Useful tips
hair oiling is not just about fashion. Natural ingredients rich in vitamins, minerals and fatty acids effectively care for hair, provide health and beauty. However, the question remains, which hair oil to choose?

For cosmetic purposes, you can enumerate at least a hundred of natural oils – this gives you a wide range of possibilities. However, at the same time, selecting the proper one is a bit more difficult – it would be easier to choose from a few, not several hundred.

Hair oiling is only effective if we use oils that match the needs of our hair. List all your hair-related problems, this will bring you a step closer towards finding the ideal one. Below, you will find a few tips that you might find useful when deciding on the oil for your hair type.

WHAT HAIR OIL TO CHOOSE?

First of all, let’s focus on the porosity of the hair (we can distinguish three types of hair porosity: low, medium and high). The oils work much better if they are matched to the structure of the hair, i.e. they have the ideal size of fatty acid molecules to penetrate the interior of the hair. The closer the hair scales are the lower the porosity, the smaller the oil particles. And the same applies to the other way around.

(1) The best oils for hair with high porosity are those that comprise omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (Argan oil, Cottonseed oil and Evening Primrose oil). Oils recommended for medium porosity hair contain more omega-7 and omega-9 fatty acids (Jojoba oil, Almond oil, Sunflower oil). Hair with low porosity benefits from oils abounding in saturated fatty acids that are in the form of butter (Coconut, Mango, Palm).

On the other hand, not all of us knows the porosity of our hair, sometimes, it is difficult to determine it on our own. In this case, we should follow other indicators:

(2) The best oils for fair hair, thin hair, weak hair are those that are quickly absorbed and do not overburden the strands. Since fair hair has lower melanin content, it is usually weaker and thinner. Additionally, it can lose condition due to using a thick oil or even become darker is you reach for Indian Ayurvedic oils. In this case, the best ones are: Macadamia oil, Marula oil and Jojoba oil.

(3) If your hair is unruly, go for oils indicated for frizzy, static and dull hair. Olive oil, Jojoba oil and Flaxseed oil are best at taming unruly strands. In this case, it is even more beneficial to perform hot oil treatment because it rings more intense effects and leaves the hair silky soft.

(4) The most recommended oil for styling the hair is Argan oil. It’s one of the very few oils with heat protecting properties. Also, it regenerates weak and damaged hair.
