Natural UV filters. Coconut oil and sun protection

Certainly, tanning isn’t heathy for our organism unless we use appropriate sunscreen. On the other hand, regular sun creams are believed to be full of potentially harmful chemical substances. What to do then? One of the options to choose is application of natural sun protection filters – and one of them is coconut oil.

In the 19th century, there were some regions of the world where tanned skin was considered as a low class attribute, therefore the well-off used to avoid the sun. To some extent this attitude can be recognized as reasonable because thanks to that people were less exposed to the harmful action delivered by UV radiation. However, it must be realized that even in the shadow solar radiation is strong, especially during the summer. At present, it’s tanned skin that is considered as trendy, therefore, all various sunscreens must be recognized as cosmetics which any make-up bag shouldn’t lack.

How to protect skin from the sun?

1. Avoid long exposition to the sun.
2. Use creams containing UV filters that are appropriate to the occasion (intensity of the sun).
3. Protect head with, for example, scarves or wide-brimmed hats.
4. Don’t refrain from wearing more body-covering clothes made of natural fabric.
5. Go for natural sunscreens.

Natural sunscreens

Natural sunscreen mostly differs from a regular sunscreen with the ingredients it lacks and these are substances that can potentially cause allergic reactions. To clarify, readymade products may feature preservatives, alcohols, parabens or fragrances. Even essential oils aren’t warmly welcomed by delicate, irritated by the sun skin.

The best natural sunscreens are oils. The highest sun protection filter is given by raspberry seed oil (28-50 SPF), wild carrot seed oil (38-40 SPF) or wheat sprout oil (20 SPF). However, most frequently it’s the coconut oil that is pointed out when the slogan ‘sun protection’ is on.

Coconut oil and sun protection

Natural coconut oil features a typical for most natural oils sun protection filter ranging from 2 to 4. It may seem that this protection isn’t adequate, yet if applied regularly (not from time to time as it’s typical for application of readymade sunscreens) it may appear to be benign for our skin.

Another quite a huge advantage of coconut oil to mention is the fact that it doesn’t only protect against the sun and minimize its harmfulness but also it nourishes, softens, smooths and adds shine. Moreover, coconut oil can be applied both to skin and hair. Also, it’s a good idea to look for creams containing UV filter the composition of which is fairly natural, where the very coconut oil and other natural oils create this essential during the summer shield.
